Insight Research - Grid Computing: A Vertical Market Perspective ...

Insight-corp.comhttp://www.insight-corp.com [Insight-corp.com] No longer the exclusive tool of researchers seeking to harness enough compute power for massive computational challenges such as weather modeling or weapons test simulations, today grids are being deployed in more traditional commercial computing applications. For example, commercial computing stalwarts IBM, Intel, Hewlett-Packard (HP), and Sun recently announced they were forming the Globus Consortium to drive the technology into the mainstream for applications such as financial analysis, oil exploration, and pharmaceutical testing.

Arxiv.orghttp://arxiv.org [Arxiv.org] Providers, middlemen and users exchange universal GRID computing units (GCUs) at varyingprices. Providers and middlemen have strategies aimed at maximizing profitwhile users are 'satisficing' agents, and only change their behavior if theservice they receive is sufficiently poor or overpriced.

Grid Computing Planet: Grid Computing System Wins Microsoft .NET Award

[Gridcomputingplanet.com] NET as a tool for tapping the computing power of idle PCs on the Internet and turning them into a "poor man's supercomputer," reducing the time it takes to do calculations and simulations from months or years to mere hours or minutes, Microsoft said. Led by Luis Sarmenta, undergraduate students Stanley Tan, Sacha Chua, Paul Echevarria, Russell Santos and Joey Mendoza used .

Grid & Virtualization: Different sides of different coins

http://westcoastgrid.blogspot.com [West Coast Grid] Virtual machines (like EMC's VMWare or Virtual Iron's Virtual Iron) permit the former by allowing you to run several copies of the OS on one machine, effectively partitioning it. The best part about this from the application's perspective is that it doesn't even know it's running on a virtual server--it thinks it has the machine to itself.

GNoTECon take aways...

http://krgreenlee.blogspot.com [A Day in the Life] Mary Trigiani asked a very important question during one of the panel discussions that was basically along the lines of, "Is the rise in technical evangelism a result of a failure of marketing?" This is an important question because the answer is vital to help understand how technical evangelism will mature. At its root the question is asking, "Why was technical evangelism invented?" Technical or secular evangelism was invented to fill some needs and it has grown because these needs are common.
