[West Coast Grid] Grid Computing? In the Central Valley?: Kim's talk is going to be great. The title is "From Threads to Grid - Application Scalability and Performance for the 21st Century," and she's going to delve into the various ways to add scalability to your app: concurrency through multi-threading, grid, etc.
Jeff Sandquist - Microsoft Evangelist: One of my favorite business programs though of all time is CBC's Venture which goes behind the scenes in all types of businesses from startups, mom and pops and corporations. It was quite transparent and really showed the people behind companies and the adversity they face trying to create brands, products and more. (via Cosmos)
Powers Unfiltered: the IDEA is that you enter a search term, and Sharepoint returns a list of people who have some knowledge or capability in that area, sorted by your “social distance” from that person. There was no discussion of how the information about the “people” got populated, so exactly how SharePoint would learn that Im a grid computing CEO / entrepreneur / father-of-three / Atlanta Braves fan who likes beer was not explained. West Coast Grid: I was able to work around this in code, but it's not the kind of thing developers should have to worry about (seeKim's post on how developers rely on the systems beneath their code). Still - I'm glad this was only an application drawing pretty pictures. (via Cosmos)
[Powersunfiltered.com] Powers Unfiltered: So it is always a pleasure when one of these events goes right. SVASE does better than average, so when I saw that they’d lined up Will Price of Hummer Winblad to meet with a handful of entrepreneurs, I signed up for a slot. Will is one of the growing number of venture capitalists who blog, and he’s better than most. There were eight of us entrepreneurs, a couple of sponsors (Deloitte hosted, providing a great venue, good bagels, and an inadequate quantity of coffee), and almost none of the usual hangers-on (zero life coaches, zero lawyers). Will gave a 10-minute introduction, providing a mix of information (about what Hummer Winblad is looking for), advice to entrepreneurs (in how to find the right investment partner), and analysis of where the software market is heading. He was clear, direct, and insightful; if you read his post entitled “Questions to Ask,” and then poke around at other recent posts, you’ll get the general idea.
