[HPCwire: Relevant HPC news stories from around the globe] HPCwire: Grid Enables Vector Supercomputing Environment: As the first step in establishing the cloud computing environment, the virtualization of the computing resources at both centers was made by integrating the newly developed GridVM for the SX-9 into the NAREGI middleware. Furthermore, it was successfully demonstrated that running jobs is possible with the automatic, selective allocation of jobs between two supercomputers in accordance with the system load status of each system, making the maximum utilization of resources over the entire grid possible.

[HPCwire: Expert Analysis and Reviews on Powerful HPC Systems] HPCwire: Grid Enables Vector Supercomputing Environment: In this demonstration experiment, a parallelized electro-magnetic field simulation program was run by interconnecting two SX-9 systems both at Tohoku University and Osaka University with the use of parallel programming libraries for shared memory and distributed memory. As the first step in establishing the cloud computing environment, the virtualization of the computing resources at both centers was made by integrating the newly developed GridVM for the SX-9 into the NAREGI middleware.

Technically, supporting DP is not costly, and the Portland Group plans to revisit this decision based on performance and user feedback.

But just as I find it a pain to create a VPN tunnel every time grandma's NAT'd digital picture frame needs to be reconfigured (and hope that we're not both using the same RFC1982 prefix) I'm not going to want to tunnel Ethernet over the Internet every time I want to run some diagnostic tool or firmware updater on my autopilot from the comfort of my home.
[GPS Navigation Blog] GPS/GSM News Archive: In earlier attempts to use GPS technology for determining a usage-based rating system, by monitoring a drivers driving behavior then gauging risk, some auto insurance industry pioneers of the system found that their use of GPS technology failed due to prohibitive costs, complex production and device installation... EarthSearch plans to eliminate those barriers by facilitating a program that allows insurers to promote the installation of the AutoSearch device free of charge to its customers with the acceptance of a monthly service charge to be paid by the insured. The AutoSearch installation process takes only 45 minutes for those cars that are not already equipped with the technology.
[Latest RSS Content for All Communities | Second Life] Cory Linden's Town Hall Transcript - Features - Second Life Blogs: Thinking of the problems we have with the official Linden client, which is programmed only by Linden Lab employees with full knowledge, and how that causes problems when moving from the test grid to main grid (as we found out again today), how can one user running the client only for themselves possibly predict or know what is going on for anyone else? Someone could easily (unwittingly or otherwise) introduce a memory leak that eventually crashes the sim within half an hour of them visiting it, so they could leave a trail of destruction behind them, they haven't got a clue about it, Linden Lab don't know what's causing it, and hundreds of pissed off users find themselves either lagged to death or logged out.
