Gridget > GridCast: live and behind the scenes of grid computing: CloudScape II
[GridCast: live and behind the scenes of grid computing] Davide Solomon from INFN stressed the importance of leveraging on the successes we've already achieved with grid. Grids have a long history with multi-domain large scale resource sharing and using the know-how and infrastructure we've created in grids could help with issues such as interoperability, open standards and privacy in clouds.

[Open Mind] GHCN: preliminary results « Open Mind: It should also be remembered that the averages I get are for land only (no sea surface temperatures) and for the northern hemisphere only (so far!)Land warms faster than sea, and the northern hemisphere faster than the southern, so we should expect faster warming from what I’ve got so far than for the globe as a whole with proper adjustments and a finer grid (like GISS or HadCRU).
[eHealthNews.EU Portal / All News] Call for Papers: HealthGrid 2010 Conference: This year, it will take place just at the time the European Grid Initiative will start federating the national grid initiatives and propose its resources to the Research Infrastructures. The conference program will include a number of high profile keynote presentations complemented by a set of refereed papers, which will be selected through the present call.

[ERCIM News] A4C Support for Commercialization of Next-Generation Grid Services: Given the vast growth in the number of mobile Internet users, the EU Project Akogrimo is therefore aiming to advance the pervasiveness of Grid computing across Europe by uniting concepts and results gained in the systems beyond 3G (B3G) and the Grid community. Driven by business requirements, authentication, authorization, accounting, auditing and charging (hence the name A4C) are crucial functions for the commercial deployment of NGG technology for providers and users of mobile Internet Grid services.
[Renewable Energy Focus - Latest News] Renewable Energy Focus - NIST issues first release of framework ...: With the EUs goal of 20% renewable energy by 2020, and the UK governments plan to roll out smart meters to all domestic customers by the same time, the way has been paved for smart grids. Global energy consumption is set to triple by 2050, and power networks need to transform into intelligent systems that will save energy, accommodate increasing amounts of renewable energy, and ensure supply security.
[Open Mind] Combining Stations « Open Mind: And of course, the difference is much smaller than the net warming during the instrumental era, either globally or for this grid. Nonetheless, I’ll study the differences between methods for other grids, and of course for large-scale averages.
[symmetry breaking] symmetry breaking » Blog Archive » Computing in a grid or a cloud: He says that grids are all about interoperability, allowing a lot of different resources to be federated–that is, to come together to work effectively. A cloud, on the other hand, is principally a way to virtualize services (such as computation power or data storage), or take them away from your local place of work and put them wherever they most conveniently sit but still available to you at all times.
